OREGON - Winifred "Winnie" Alton Delamater, age 88, went to her eternal home on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at home with daughters at her side. She was born Nov. 3, 1920, in Dodgeville to Cornwall, England parents, Elmer and Lydia (Crase) Alton, and raised in Linden, Wis. The family will be forever grateful for the dedicated care given with dignity and respect by Dr. Kurt W. Hansen and nursing staff at U.W. Hospital, Dr. Barbara Klein, Dr. John A. Finnell, Dr. John F. Doyle and staff at U.W. Hospital, South Madison Coalition, Dane County Human Services, Care Wisconsin (home and daycare), HospiceCare, Oregon Senior Center and staff, Meals on Wheels and all volunteers, All Faiths Funeral Care, friends, Jan, Hazel and Virgil. Mom would have said thank you for all each of you did. Mom was an amazing woman who lived with cerebral palsy, a disability that she never allowed stop her living life to the absolute fullest. She was one of the first women with cerebral palsy in the 1950s to have children. For 38 years she was the coordinator and leader of the "Happy Hour Club". This club allowed individuals with disabilities to get out in the community. Mom you are an inspiration to us, your inner and outer strength, the love for your family and life, what you have taught us will never be forgotten, you will be in our hearts forever. Mom also had a great love of all animals. You will be missed by your friends and companions, Buster, Pumpkin and Lexi. Mom was a huge fan of the UW Badgers. Winnie is survived by daughters, Sandy (Jan) Delamater of Oregon and Ronalee (Roy) Shackelford of Stoughton; her pride and joy grandchildren, Kristen (Shackelford) (Chad) Call of Texas and Adam Shackelford of North Carolina; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Lydia (Crase) Alton; sisters, Helena, Ruth, Marion, Joyce and Lois; brothers, Harold, Donald and Dr. Bevin Blanchard; nieces and nephews. Immediate family will have a private service. Memorials and or donations may be made to the Dane County Humane Society, Care Wisconsin or HospiceCare. "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, and if I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, Amen."
