MOUNT STERLING, WIS. Wilma Jean (Ertel) Schreck, 87, of Mt. Sterling, Wis., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016 at The Bland Bekkedal Center for HospiceCare in Viroqua, Wis., after a courageous battle with bladder cancer. Wilma was born on the home farm near Lynxville, Wis., on Dec. 11, 1928 to William and Clara (Stluka) Ertel. She joined an older brother, Edward to complete the Ertel family. Wilma graduated top of her class at Seneca High School in 1946. She married Del Schreck on June 4, 1955 at the Eastman Salem Ev. United Brethren Church. It was a love at first sight that lasted 61 years. The marriage was blessed with a son, Steven and a daughter, Lois. They farmed together on Taylor Ridge in Seneca until retiring in 1988 and moving to Mount Sterling. Wilma was an active member of the Seneca United Methodist Church and later the Eastman Salem United Methodist Church, as well as the Better Builders 4-H Club, and Crawford County Homemakers. She enjoyed many hobbies and past times including: vegetable and flower gardens, crocheting, photography, bus trips, reunions, sending out notes of encouragement and prayer, and cooking and baking for family and friends. Her faith was a light and inspiration to all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Del; son, Steve (Lynn) Schreck of Seneca; daughter, Lois (Larry) Thompson of Cameron; grandsons, Mark and Scott Schreck; step-grandchildren, Chad (Kris) Thompson and Jill (Chris) Hermann; step-great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Isabelle, and Ryker Thompson and Max, Katie and Emma Hermann. She is further survived by a brother, Edward (Darlene) Ertel and their families of the Milwaukee area; and a sister-in-law, Jeannine Schreck of Prairie du Chien. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Clara Ertel; and brothers-in-law, David (Gertie), Robert (Marian) and Charles Schreck. A memorial service will be held at the EASTMAN SALEM UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, in Eastman on Monday, Aug. 15, 2016 beginning at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
