MADISON - William J. Meuer, age 84, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Capitol Lakes Health Center. He was born in Madison on Jan. 13, 1930, the son of Roman and Elizabeth (Sullivan) Meuer. The youngest of five children, Bill graduated from Edgewood High School and UW-Madison, after which he served as a lieutenant in the Military Police during the Korean War. Following the war, he attended the University of Wisconsin Law School and practiced law for over 20 years before retiring due to poor health. He married the former Moneen Burke, with whom he had three children. They were later divorced. He was a proud Badgers and a lifelong Packers fan and a keen student of history and military history. Never one to let the facts get in the way of a good story, Bill delighted in telling entertaining tales. He will be remembered for his humor and his grace in the face of adversity. He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Bruce) Wasserstrom, Megan Meuer-Becker, and Elyse Meuer; his granddaughters, Emma, Lauren, Claudia and Claire; as well as a sister, Jean Emerson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Robert and James; and his sister, Mary Ellen O'Malley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Drive, in Madison, with Father Bart Timmerman presiding. A luncheon will follow. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
