William J. Burke

MADISON William J. Burke, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017 at Brookdale Madison North, following an extended illness. He was born Oct. 19, 1932, in Waukon, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Lucille (Kingsley) Burke. Following graduation, Bill was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served two years in Germany. He married the former Mary K Griffin on April 27, 1957 in New Albin, Iowa, and they had four children. Bill was an avid card player who loved to play euchre and cribbage. He also liked reading and crossword puzzles. He was a member of both the American Legion and VFW. Bill is survived by his wife, Mary; four children, Kathleen Burke, Colleen (Dave) Lytle, James (Kathy) Burke, and Jerry (Beth) Burke; seven grandchildren; a brother, Ray (Mary Ann) Burke; and many nieces, nephews and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, beginning at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
