MARSHALL - Wallace Charles Peck, 86, died Aug. 16, 2017 in Minocqua. He was born Feb. 5, 1931, in Marshall, the youngest child raised on a farm by Henry and Zara (Calkins) Peck. Wally married Margaret Margie Klecker on Aug. 1, 1953, in Marshall. Wally was a 1949 graduate of Marshall High School. He was an excellent speller and became known as Webster for his love of reading and learning new words, skills first honed poring over newspaper comics at the home of his uncle and namesake, Wally Calkins. He relished his role as mail carrier for the 1092nd Army Corps of Engineers in Korea. Known for his dry wit, Wally had a strong work ethic. He worked for Swift & Co. and Wisconsin Bell, where he earned service awards. Survivors include his wife, Margie; daughter, Karen (Steven) Benesch of Minocqua; sons, Gregory (Cheryl) of Janesville, Thomas (Katherine) of New Richmond and Edward (Jon Brakebill) of Madison; grandchildren, Joshua Peck of Janesville, Lyndsey Peck of Woodbury, Minn., and Geoffrey and Sidney Peck, both of New Richmond; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Norman "Mike", Homer and David; and sister, Dorothy LaTondresse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. at HOLY FAMILY PARISH (St. Marys Catholic Church), 112 S. Beebe St., Marshall, with Father Jorge Miramontes presiding. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wallys final resting place will be the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Marshall, after a private burial service.
