Virginia Mcalister

STOUGHTON - Virginia McAlister, 36, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Agrace Hospice Care in Madison after a year and a half struggle with cervical cancer. Born April 25, 1977, in Wausau, to Fran and Jeff Eckes, she graduated from Appleton East High School. An avid animal lover, she received a degree in animal science from the University of Minnesota, followed by nursing degrees from St. Catherine University and the University of Wisconsin. In 2007 she married Geoff McAlister in Door County. They have two children, Ephraim, 4, and Ellasyn, 2. In 2009, she found her calling as a nurse midwife, beginning work towards her degree at Frontier Nursing University. She continued with the program through the birth of her second child and her battle with cancer. On February 6, 2014, she was awarded an Honorary Masters in Nurse Midwifery from Frontier. Frontier has also established a scholarship in her name. Survivors include her husband, Geoff McAlister, her children Ephraim and Ellasyn, parents Fran and Jeff, brothers Paul and Kevin and an extended loving family. She was loved by many and will be missed by all. A memorial service will be held at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 700 County Highway B, Stoughton on Saturday, February 15, 2014 beginning at 11 a.m.
