Timothy Leon Brault, 65, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, died of complications from esophageal cancer on January 11, 2022, at the University Hospital in Madison. Tim (also called Timmy) and his twin brother Tom were born on May 14, 1965, in Menominee, Michigan, to Percy Brault, Jr., and the former Beverly Manske. In 1980, Tim earned the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in design and technical theater at Central Michigan University. He also studied at Michigan Technological University. From 1980 to 1987, he worked as a carpenter and shop foreman at the Goodman Theater in Chicago. From 1987 to 2001, Tim was master carpenter and technical director at the Theatre School at DePaul University. He next served as Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s technical director for two years, beginning in 2001. After more than 20 years at prominent theatre institutions in Chicago, Tim switched careers and became a personal trainer, working for fitness centers in Skokie, Illinois, and in Southern California, where he moved in 2008. He returned to the Midwest in 2013, living in the Madison, Wisconsin, area and working as a freelance contractor in Wisconsin and nearby states. He was engaged in renovation projects until a few weeks before his passing. In addition to personal training, Tim joined AIDS bike rides and was an athlete at the 2006 Gay Games in Chicago. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Bev; and his stepfather, Robert Beauparlant. Tim is survived by his five siblings: older brother, Terry (spouse, Debbie), twin brother, Tom (Vickie), and younger siblings, Todd (Wendy), Ted (Kathy), and Luanne (John), as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many friends from the Upper Peninsula to Chicago. They include housemates in Sun Prairie who benefited in countless ways from his generous spirit and his excellent carpentry, cooking, gardening, and sewing skills. A celebration of Tim Brault’s life will take place on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at Orchard Ridge United Church of Christ, 1501 Gilbert Road, Madison.
