VERONA Thomas E. Simmons, age 76 of Verona and formerly of Mineral Point, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at St. Marys Care Center in Madison. Tom was born in Freeport, Ill., March 10, 1941, the son of Floyd and Jessie (Stone) Simmons. He worked various jobs over the years, sometimes two or three to help support his family, including, cheesemaker, police officer, bus driver, and finally at Miller & Sons Grocery Store, until his health was failing and his body would no longer allow him to work. He was a lover of country music, Johnny Cash and fishing with his brother-in-law. Tom is survived by his wife, LuAnn (Hanson) Simmons and their daughter Michaela (Avery) Thorpe. He is further survived by his sons, Donald and TJ Simmons; daughters, Kathy Simmons-Dieterich, Margie Wright and Mary Free, along with their spouses and significant others; a special grandson, Jason; brother, Lee Simmons; sister, Irene Althafer-Marean; step-son, Eric Hanson; honorary son, Roger Neumann; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends, in-laws and other loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William; brothers, Elmer, Stanley, Mark and Roger; and an infant sister, Donna. A memorial service will be held at ST. JAMES LUTHERAN CHURCH, 427 S. Main St., Verona on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 beginning at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
