Theresa K. Wittig

Theresa K. Wittig, age 79, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was born May 11, 1929 in Town of Lima, Pepin Co., WI to Ignatz and Julia (nee Kainz) Wittig. Her life was a dedication of 50 years as a housekeeper for the late Fr. George Mathiew. Ever faithful, she served parishes in the LaCrosse Diocese including St. Francis of Assisi in Ellsworth in 1944, St. James the Greater in Eau Claire in 1952, St. Mary’s in Stanley in 1957, St. Joseph in Black River Falls in 1967 and Holy Ghost in Chippewa Falls in 1970. Her retirement years were spent at St. Anthony de Padua in Augusta and on Lake Eau Claire near Augusta. Theresa is survived by five sisters: Sr. Mary Avila of LaCrosse, WI, Marie Hayden of Durand, WI, Helen Stilson of Condon, OR, Edna Fischer of Bayport, MN, and Gertrude (Kenneth) Holmstadt of Plum City, WI; three brothers: Alfred Wittig of Eau Claire, WI, James Wittig of Durand, WI and Louis (Mary Ann) Wittig of Durand, WI; 59 neices and nephews, a sponsored child in Equador, Lady Jaqueline; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister: Anna Wilson and three brothers: Joseph, Anthony and Edward. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 12:00 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1812 Lynn Ave., Altoona, WI. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Parish Cemetery, Town of Lima, Pepin Co., WI on Wednesday at 2:30 PM. Friends may call on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Plombon’s All Faiths Funeral & Cremation Service, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire where a vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM and again at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to services.
