MADISON – Terry D. Smith, age 47 of Madison, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home in his sleep on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008. He was born Nov. 2, 1960 in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Willard Smith and Lillian Lundgren. Terry graduated from Mariner High School in Minnesota. He later received his degree in Interior Design. Terry was an avid gardener and an accomplished photographer. He was a member of the American Society of Interior Design, Friends of the Yahara River Parkway where he was volunteer of the year, and was an organizer for several cancer charity events in Madison. Terry worked at Rubin’s and later was a freelance designer for several years. He is survived by his partner, Robert Longstaff, of Guildford, England; mother, Lillian (Tom) Chukel, of Spring Valley, Wis.; father, Willard (Gina) Smith, Sun City, Az.; five brothers, Michael, Bradley and Gregory Smith, and Tom and Tim Chukel; many nieces and nephews; and several friends on both sides of the Atlantic. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at OLBRICH BOTANICAL GARDENS, 3330 Atwood Ave., on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008 at 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Madison AIDS Network, 600 Williamson St., Madison, WI 53703.
