Stephen Patrick Johnson

April 10, 1947 — August 7, 2018

JANESVILLE - Stephen Patrick Johnson, 71, passed away peacefully at home on August 7th, 2018. The son of Clarence and Alice (Wattenphul) Johnson, Steve was born April 10th, 1947 in Beloit, Wisconsin. He graduated from South Beloit High School in 1965. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1966-1968 and was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War working in munitions. He prided himself in being a United States Veteran. On May 22nd, 1971, he married Karen Nash in Rockton, Illinois at the Church on the Side of the Road. They went on to adopt two children - Patrick and Callie. He was incredibly proud watching them both grow, follow their dreams, and find their own success in life. A true tradesman, Steve spent his life working as an engineer. Early in his career he worked as Vice President of Engineering at Rutherford Research in Roscoe, Illinois. A job which took him across the globe. Later in life, he worked as a self-employed engineer in the food packaging industry and retired from Regal Beloit in 2014. Steve was an avid outdoorsman and animal lover. He loved sharing his knowledge of nature with his family and neighbors. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, Wisconsin sports, grilling just about anything, and working with his hands. Steve had a colorful sense of humor and was a wonderful story teller. Remembered as the life of the party, his spirit and laugh will be missed by all who knew him. Steve is survived by his wife, Karen, their children; Patrick (Debbie) Johnson of Janesville and Callie (Jeroen) Schouten of Milton, and his four grandsons; Tyler, Aiden, Isaac, and Pim who he adored. He is also survived by his beloved older sister, Joan Hayes, of Edgerton, and his niece and nephew, Kelly (Benny) Hoffmeister and Bradley (Deb) Hayes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Alice Johnson, his in-laws, Roy and Hazel Nash, and his best friends in the world; Bandit, Maggie, and Terry. A celebration of life for Steve will follow in September his favorite time of year in Wisconsin.
