Stanley I. Halverson

VERONA Stanley I. Halverson, age 86, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at Hospice Care in Madison. He was born Jan. 14, 1923, in the Township of Vermont, one of six children of the late Isaac and Betsey (Carlson) Halverson. Stanley and Dorothy Ellen Sawle were married Dec. 1, 1956, at Middleton Community Church, in Middleton, where Dorothy was the Organist. During his long career, Stanley farmed the family farm in the Township of Vermont, was later employed at The Farm Utility Co. of Mount Horeb, and then managed Windridge Farm of Black Earth for Stanley and Ethel Sorensen. Stanley was the Sales Manage for Gene Kalscheur of Kalscheur Implement of Cross Plains, where he later became a partner until his retirement in 1988. Stan was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Middleton High School FFA and had been very active with various interests until the time of his death. He loved bowling, golfing, attending sporting events and traveling to many of the world's most awesome sites. Stan is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 52 years; son, Hoyt Stanley Halverson of Madison; daughter, Heidi Ellen (George) Christodoulou and their children, Alexia Brynn and Ariston Beckett of Monterey and San Francisco, Calif.; a sister, Violet Young of Hermosa beach, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Charles Peters of San Diego, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Beatrice (Clarence) Pennington of De Forest and Wynn (Roger) Heid of Madison. Stan was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and May Sawle; his brother, Orville (Mildred) Halverson; his three sisters, Myrella (Otto) Wilkins, Florence (Arthur) Dybdahl and Betty Peters; brothers-in-law, Herbert Sawle and Edward Young; and sister-in-law, Susan (Robert) Gillies. He also leaves behind many much loved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Special thanks to Dr. David Hei and the nurses at the Oncology Unit of Meriter Hospital and especially to Dr. William Rock and his talented staff at Hospice Care. Stan's life was dedicated to his everlasting love of his family and friends. "Now abideth three things, Faith, Hope and Love, and the Greatest of these is Love." Funeral Services will be held at the VERMONT LUTHERAN CHURCH in the Township of Vermont on Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Curtis P. Everson officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives from 10 a.m. until the beginning of service. They are not long, the days of wine and roses, out of a misty dream, our path emerges for a while, then closes within a dream. By Ernest Dowson Services pending.
