Sophia F. Nelson

MADISON – Sophia F. Nelson, age 89 of Madison, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2009 at Don & Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center. She was born, August 14, 1919 in Chicago, the daughter of Francis and Frances (Cholewa) Malek. Following high school in Chicago, she married Milo Nelson, and together they farmed in the Cottage Grove area for many years. She worked as a sales clerk at Manchester’s, Pranges and Younkers for several years. Sophia is survived by four daughters, Carol Oliver, of Marion, IN, Patricia (Darrell) Hauge, of McFarland, Elizabeth (Mark) Nelson and Deborah (David) Piper, of Madison; nephew, Edward (Diane) Stasack; of Prescott, AZ; grandchildren, Brian (Susan) Hauge, of St. Louis, MO, Stacy (Patrick) Donlan, of Fox Island, WA; Carol (Ward) Meese, Dan Oliver, and Christopher (Cara) Oliver, all of Marion, IN; and Christina Oliver, of Marietta, GA; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Edward Malek; and sisters, Bette Stasack and Ann DeGenaro. There will be a private memorial service for the family.
