MADISON - Sharon Smith Stanton, age 70 of Madison, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 19th after a year long battle with brain cancer. She was born in a log cabin on May 22, 1938 in the woods of Viola, Wisconsin to Herbert N. Smith and Opal P. Smith. Through the years, Sharon enjoyed raising her children and had many adventures with her extended family. She loved picnics, camping and helping her kids with their 4-H projects. She enjoyed quilting, crafts and travel. Sharon worked at St. Mary's Hospital for 23 years in the Radiology Department and later in Medical Records. She was fortunate to visit her son Patrick in Alaska twice, explore Paris and much of France with her son Tim and his family and to survive camping with babies, Disney World and Riviera Maya with her daughter Angela and her family. She also enjoyed many travels within the U.S. and to Italy with dear friends. Since her illness began, she has enjoyed trips to Florida, Hawaii and Washington D.C. More than anything she loved the years she spent with her four amazing grandchildren. A special message of love to her sister Alice who has been her partner in crime during all the good times and bad. Sharon is survived by her three children, Patrick Stanton, Timothy (Joann) Stanton and Angela (Ed) Tyler; her four grandchildren, Kristi Tyler, Kevin Tyler, Joe Stanton and Tia Stanton; as well as her siblings, Alice (George) Haley, Ed (Linda) Smith, Tonna (Bob) Peterson, Jay (Kathy) Smith, Marsha Pache and Dean Smith; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Margo Frisbe. Sharon was a kind and loving soul who will be missed by those whose lives she touched. The family extends a special thank you to the countless members of the hospice team who so compassionately cared for her. A celebration of Sharon's life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare.
