JANESVILLE - Sandra Kay (Weber) Van Able passed away peacefully January 21, 2015, at her home in Janesville at the age of 71. Sandra was born March 24, 1943 in Milwaukee, WI, to Robert A. and Emily M. (Masek) Weber. On October 5, 1963, she married Ronald Gene Van Able at Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. Ronald always affectionately referred to Sandra as his “bride of all these years”. Sandra was a swim instructor at the YMCA, the Director of Health & Safety Services for the American Red Cross of Rock County, a WIAA swim official and a first grade teacher at St. Patrick’s School in Janesville. Sandra was giving of her time. She volunteered as an instructor for the American Red Cross in lifeguarding, water safety and HIV awareness. She was also a Girl Scout leader and president of Senior Learning Unlimited (SLU). Over the years, Sandra enjoyed world traveling, genealogy, producing stained glass, basket making, gardening, pottery and wildlife. She was a supporter of the Green Bay Packers, UW Badger football and hockey, and local theater. Sandra will be sorely missed by Ronald, her husband of 51 years; her children: Stacy Van Able of Milwaukee, WI, and Alison (David) Viemeister of Janesville, WI; her sister: Susan (Bob) Mecklenberg of Seattle, WA and nieces: Kirsten Mecklenberg and Amy (Francisco) Perez, both of Seattle, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to ECHO, the GIFTS Men’s Shelter or the Rock County Humane Society. A memorial visitation will take place on Friday, January 30, 2015, at ALL FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1618 E. Racine St., Janesville, WI, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Private family inurnment will take place following the visitation.
