MADISON – Sandra J. Thym-Sandlan, age 65 of Madison, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Agrace HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. She was born Sept. 30, 1946 in Green Bay, the daughter of Alvin “Tiny” and Anna (McGillivray) Thym. Following her graduation from Pulaski High School she attended the University of Wisconsin, eventually attaining her Master’s Degree in Social Work. She began her career at Meriter Hospital in May of 1968 and devoted 44 years of her life to the Adult and Child & Adolescent Psych units. During this time, she also volunteered as an EMT where she would later meet her soul mate, Donald Sandlan. Together for a number of years, they were married March 13, 1995 in Madison. Sandy welcomed Don’s family and embraced them as her own. She is survived by Alice (Terry) Cunningham, Vandy Sandlan, Lisa (Manuel) Chavez, Steve (Debbie) Sandlan; and two very special granddaughters, Tania and Megan Sandlan; a niece, Anna Depies; two nephews, Alex and Charlie Horn; and her best friends, Carrie Broughton and Suki Keniston. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don; and a brother Robert Melvin Horn. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend a special thanks for the care and compassion Sandy received while at Meriter Hospital and Agrace HospiceCare Center.
