Rosemary V. Walsh

MONONA - Rosemary V. Walsh, age 90, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2017 at Maplewood of Sauk City with a daughter at her bedside. Rosemary was born on June 27, 1926 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Paul and Matilda (Schmidt) Anthony. In 1944, Rosemary attended St. Josephs Nurses Training School in Chicago as part of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps., which was established due to the urgent need for nurses during and shortly after World War II. Rosemary graduated from St. Josephs in 1947 and became a registered nurse at a Chicago hospital. There she met her future husband, Gene (Mike) Walsh. They were married in 1948, lived in Dubuque and then Clinton, Iowa before settling in Monona, Wis., in 1955 where they raised their four children. Rosemary was a devoted mother who also returned to her nursing career in 1970 becoming the night charge nurse in the psychiatric department at Madison General Hospital (Meriter), where she worked until 2001. Rosemary and Mike were married for 58 years until his passing in 2006. Rosemary is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mike; sister, Margaret; brothers, Paul and Donald; and son-in-law, Stanley. She is survived by a brother, Richard; her four children, Maureen (William) Speers-Walsh, Patricia, Susan (Thomas) OBrien, Michael (Jessica) Walsh; three grandchildren, Justin (Wesolowski), Henry and Kate Walsh. The family would like to thank the staff of Maplewood of Sauk City, Meadow View Baraboo and EMMCA Monona for the compassionate care they provided for Rosemary and her family during the past five years. A memorial service will be held at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK CHAPEL, 401 Femrite Dr., Monona, at 11 a.m. on Friday May 26, 2017.
