MADISON - Ronald J. Johnson, age 74, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018, at Tender Reflections in DeForest. He was born on April 11, 1943, in Madison, the son of Alvin and Alvilda (Valstad) Johnson. Prior to his retirement, Ron served as a court reporter for the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. Ron had a large circle of friends. Ron was a league tennis captain for many years, organizing team practices and scheduling play. He was an active member of Hitters SportsPlex. Ron also won many awards for his waterskiing ability, including first place in the Wisconsin Senior Mens' trick skiing event. For many years, Ron also organized downhill skiing and snowboarding trips out West for family and friends. He really enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, especially Hearts and Euchre. He also enjoyed traveling the world with friends. Ron was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army from 1965-1966 in the DMZ in Korea. Ron is survived by his brother, Garry (Marie) Johnson; sister, Luanne Connor; sister-in-law, Karen Johnson; nephews, Jeffrey Johnson and Michael (Trina) Johnson; nieces, Lori (Chad Hooper) Pierce and Jamie (Joel Byrne) Johnson; grandnephews, Brandon (Emily) Pierce, Jeremy (Lindsey) Pierce, and Chad Hooper, Jr.; grandniece, Olivia Boubin-Johnson; and a very special friend, Allen Tkachuk. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Alvilda Johnson, and brother, David Johnson. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Tender Reflections and Heartland Hospice where all found Ron to be a very "pleasant" man and enjoyed caring for him. He was well liked and loved by all who knew him. Memorials may be made to fund Parkinson's Research at the Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O.
