MADISON – Roman J. “Romie” Hilgers, age 93 of Madison, passed away, Thursday, August 17, 2006. He was born March 26, 1913 in Madison, the son of Theodore and Margaret Hilgers. Romie worked at the UW Meat Market, the University of Wisconsin, and played with the Bob Arden Orchestra. He is survived by his wife Pearl Hilgers; two daughters, Judy (Paul) Kopp, of Festus, MO, and Susan Coombs, of Sonoma, CA; a son, Mark (Katie) Hilgers, of Poynette; step-sons, Bob (Carla) Johnson and Tom (Kathy) Johnson; step-daughters, Fay (Lauren) Bomkamp and Judy Reveles; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Romie was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ted and Werner Hilgers, a sister, Elizabeth Hilgers, and his first wife, Doris. A private memorial service will be held by the family.
