MADISON - Rollin L. "Red" Hansen died on Wednesday April 14, 2010, after waging a courageous nine month battle with metastatic lung cancer, at the Don and Marilyn Hospice Center. He passed into eternity surrounded by love. Red was born on February 24, 1942 in Chicago and was raised in Beloit. He served in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1967 and was honorably discharged. He worked for fifteen years with Frank Beer Distributor of Madison as a sales supervisor. He made many friends and enjoyed his time there immensely. Red attended MATC, taking architectural drafting classes and worked for Brunsell Lumber Company. He retired from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) on March 1, 2010. He was rewarded with great friends who were very sincere and generous. Red was an avid Badger and Brewer fan, and he loved his time on the golf course. Red and his daughters will never forget the excellent care provided by the Veterans Hospital in Madison, particularly by Dr. Jacob Ninan, the lab technicians (especially Terry); the nurses in the infusion clinic (especially Jackie); neighbors Don & Ethel Sorenson; the Dane County Regional Airport TSA staff, who endlessly gave their time and support ~ your generosity touched Red more deeply than we can express. We would also like to give profound thanks to our Hospice Care team, Joan, Julie, Betty, Sister Georgeann and Dr. Weston who showed the true compassion and care we should all be so blessed to have at the time of our passing. Red is survived by his three daughters, Stephanie (Tony) Restivo, Suzanne (Berk) Claiborne, Sara (Dan) Kissling, and their mother, Judy Hansen; 11 grandchildren – Dominic, Peter, Natalie, Hayden, Jaqueline, Will, Matthew, Joseph, Nic, Caroline, Isabella; and cousin Robert (Anne) Nehls of South Carolina. Red was preceded in death by his parents Clifford L. Hansen (’89) and Carolyn Nehls Hansen (’01). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Msgr. Michael Burke officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Oregon.
