MADISON – Rodney P. Ebel, age 77, a life-long Madison resident, died on Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. He was born on March 23, 1929, in Sauk City, the son of Paul and Emilie (Fenske) Ebel. In his childhood he attended the Madison Schools for the Hearing Impaired. Thanks to dedicated teachers, and wearing hearing aids since 1943, he went on to graduate from East High School in 1947. He also attended the University of Wisconsin for two years. He had a varied working career. His final positions were in data processing at the University of Wisconsin, from 1960 to his retirement in 1991. He was a member of Madison Eastside Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1932. He married his first and only love, the former Harriett Kortbein, on April 23, 1960 at Ridgeville, Wis. Rod is survived by his wife, Harriett; a son, Darrin; and a daughter, Emilie (Dan) Van Galen; and two grandchildren. He is further survived by his only sibling, a brother, Al (Lu) Ebel, of Phelps, New York. Rod always felt that he was truly blessed by kind and considerate Maternal, Paternal, and in-law relatives, and many wonderful long-time friends and neighbors. A celebration of Rod’s life will be held at the EASTSIDE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2310 Independence Lane, on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007 at 12:30 p.m. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the church or HospiceCare, Inc.
