BURLINGTON - Robert, son of Mary and Ralph Bennett of Burlington, Wis. was born on December 9, 1924 and died on March 13, 2013. Bob “Bookstore” Bennett enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1943 and served in the European Theater during World War II, flying 35 combat missions in a B-17 Flying Fortress. Robert had one sibling, Bill, who preceded him in death. After World War II, Robert returned and married Patricia Halpin; both attended the University of Wisconsin with Bob earning a Master's degree in history. Bob and Pat moved into their present home on Gregory Street in Madison in 1963 and remained there for 50 years. Bob was affectionately known as "Bookstore" within his family for his love of reading and amassing a collection of over 10,000 books adorning the walls throughout their home in Madison on Gregory Street. Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia; as well as children, Beth, Bob Jr., Kathy, George, Chuck and Pat. Bob and Pat had seven children including Roberta who died in 1969 at the age of 15. Bookstore is survived by 10 grandchildren, Jessica, Emily, Ryan, Gabby, Charlie, CJ, PJ, Robert, Annye and John, Bob's body will be cremated and spread to the winds, forever marking his term in history. We will all miss "Bookstore" tremendously. We will be indefatigable in carrying his spirit with us for generations through the passage of time. Godspeed dad, we will always love and remember you.
