STOUGHTON - Rita Rae Sperle, age 78, died May 3, 2017, at Agrace HospiceCare after a long illness. She was born in November 1938 to Homer and Dorothy (Anderson) Sperle. Rita was proud of her Norwegian heritage and lived her whole life on a farm near Stoughton. After graduating from Stoughton High School, she attended Madison Area Technical College, where she earned a degree in graphic arts. She used her artistic talent in jobs at the Capital Times and Channel 27 TV station. Later, she worked at McDonald's while helping run the family tobacco farm. After her parents died, she continued operating the farm by herself. She loved Sperle Farm, Arabian and saddlebred horses, and her most recent job in the paint department at Menards (Monona). Rita was a tiny bundle of energy and strength, who lived life on her own terms and faced cancer and death unflinchingly. She is survived by her sister, Judy (Mike) Becker of Schertz, Texas; brother, Ronald (Chris) Sperle of Merrilan, Wis.; brother, John (Patricia) Sperle of Berthoud, Colo; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. At Rita's request, her remains were cremated and no services were held. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Agrace HospiceCare or to the Dane County Humane Society.
