EAU CLAIRE / MADISON - Richard "Rick" W. Hoehn, 67, of Eau Claire and Madison, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 after a year-long battle with lung cancer at the Ellen and Peter Anderson HospiceCare Residence in Fitchburg, WI. Rick was born on August 20, 1942 in Madison, WI to Pearl (Soppeland) and Warren "Woody" Hoehn. Rick was raised in the Eau Claire area, graduating in 1960 from Memorial High School. He then attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Chippewa Valley Technical College. He worked at Fabri-Tek of Eau Claire, Kaiser Aerospace and Electronics in Phoenix, AZ, Chip-Tronic of Chippewa Falls, Finley Engineering of Eau Claire. Rick owned and operated Sundial Sports. Rick as the self proclaimed Wisconsin's Worst Guitar Player, played with the Unknowns (1961), The Thundermen (1962-1964), Michael and the Marksmen (1964) and the Thundermen (1982-1988). He owned and operated a recording studio (Thundermen Records) for a number of years and self published the monthly newsletter, The Snesdruel County News for ten years (1999-2009). Rick is survived by his wife, Nancy Troxel-Hoehn; brother-in-laws, Ronald (Susan) Troxel and Jon Troxel of Augusta, WI; niece, Stacey (Brian) Leslin of Augusta, WI; nephews, Jason Troxel of Augusta, WI and Mark Troxel of Elk Mound, WI; great-nephew, Cashton Leslin of Augusta, WI; uncle, Herbert (Joanne) Hoehn of Altoona, WI; aunts, Virginia (Lyle) Peterson of Menomonie, WI and Betty Hoehn of Sheboygan, WI; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Todd Hoehn; his parents, Warren and Pearl Hoehn; both paternal and maternal grandparents; uncles, Willard "Frank" Soppeland, Tom Hoehn, and Robert "Blondie" Hoehn; aunts, Evelyn "Dolly' (Soppeland) Brandon, Florence (Soppeland) Matas, Olive "Ollie" (Soppeland) MacLaughlin; and cousin, James Brandon. Rick's sense of humor and companionship will be sorely missed by family and friends. A celebration of Rick's life will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Smith Funeral Chapel, Eau Claire, WI. No formal services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to HospiceCare Foundation, Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711. Rick's wife and family would especially like to thank Dr. Linh Khuu and the staff of Dean Clinic's Hematology and Oncology Department in Madison, and the staff of the Ellen and Peter Anderson HospiceCare Residence in Fitchburg.
