MADISON/BIRCHWOOD – Richard J. “Dick” Radl, age 70, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2007, at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg, following a yearlong battle with lung cancer. He was born July 12, 1936, in Madison, the son of Godfrey and Grace (Kast) Radl. Dick graduated from Madison East High School in 1954, and soon after served in the Marine Corp. in San Diego. He worked for several years with Professional Data Processing. From there, he became President of TDS/CS for nine years and later retired from the State of Wisconsin. Following his retirement in 1999, he moved to the Birchwood area in Northern Wisconsin, fulfilling his life-long dream of living in the North Woods where he pursued his hobbies of hunting and fishing. Dick served on the Board of Directors for Orchard Hill Assisted Living in Madison, was elected as Supervisor to the Town of Birchwood, was an active board member for the Birchwood School Foundation, and a lifetime member of the Elks Club in Rice Lake. Dick’s love of the outdoors led him to participate in the local organization, Walleye’s for Tomorrow. He was well known for his homemade maple syrup and sauerkraut. Dick is survived by six children, Kari-Ellen Radl, of McFarland, Mary (Bill) Davis, of McFarland, Teresa Radl, of Racine, David Radl, of Madison, Sheila Kennedy, of St. Louis, and Trish (John) Masanz, of Wausau; 17 grandchildren; his beloved companion of 18 years, Mary Uselmann, of Madison; four brothers, Edward (Linda) Radl, of Baraboo, Paul Radl, of Sauk City, Mike Radl, of North Carolina, Glenn Radl, of Madison and many nieces, nephews and good friends. His parents, a brother, George and a sister, Marlene Klemm, preceded him in death. A memorial service in celebration of Dick’s life will be held and announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Birchwood School Foundation, PO Box 388, Birchwood, WI 54817 or HospiceCare, Inc., Fitchburg. We would like to thank the HospiceCare staff, especially Janet, Kevin, Patti, Sina, Jolene, and Erin for their loving care. Dad, you have left behind a thousand moments that will live on in our hearts forever.
