Phyllis J. Ward

COTTAGE GROVE Phyllis J. Ward, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Oakwood Prairie Ridge in Madison. She was born in Madison on Aug. 29, 1932, the daughter of Dennie and Evelyn (Utke) Carter. Phyllis graduated from Waunakee High School, class of 1950. She married Donald J. Ward on Jan. 28, 1954 and together they had four children. She worked for many years in the insurance industry, first for General Casualty, then retired from American Family. Phyllis cherished her time with her family and grandchildren. Her compassion for animals was unmistakable, especially for her dogs. She also loved mystery novels and music, and spent much of her time reading and playing the piano. Phyllis is survived by her four children, Donald J. (Kim) Ward Jr., David L. (Syd) Ward, Dale R. (Jo) Ward and Dorothy J. (Victor) Ward; five grandchildren, Jason, Tanya, Jennifer, Amy and Leah; four great-grandchildren, Gavin, Evelyn, Tyson and Porter; and a brother, Dennis J. Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. At Phyllis request, private burial services next to her husband will be held at Highland Memory Gardens, Madison.
