Michael "Mike" Garvin Sr., age 86, of Janesville, WI, passed away peacefully at home on April 20, 2024, in Janesville WI.
He graduated from Janesville High School in 1956. He played football and wrestled, placing third in state his senior year. He furthered his education at UW-Wisconsin, Madison, also wrestling there. Mike then proudly served in the US Navy.
Mike worked at General Motors for over 30 years, retiring as 3rd shift supervisor. As a lifelong learner, he became a Master Tax Advisor at H&R Block. He worked there for over 28 years, never officially retiring. In addition to these jobs, he also did excavation, small engine repair and golf course maintenance.
He was a dedicated member of First Lutheran Church in Janesville throughout his life, from Luther League to choir to making sure the youth group always had ice cream treats.
Mike's greatest joy came from spending time with his loved ones. He is survived by his best friend and adventure partner, Beth Bloedel; his children: Michael Garvin Jr, Patrick Garvin, David Garvin, Dianne (David) Daily, Eric (Julie) Garvin, Marianne Wellnitz, Sarena (Dean) Krogman, Thomas (Shawn) Garvin, Jodi Garvin, and Jon Garvin. He is survived by 22
grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Mike is also survived by his sister Karen (Jan Brundige) Garvin and extended Bloedel-Randall family.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Stan and Ada Garvin, siblings Stan Garvin Jr, Ruth Wasson, and son-in-law Tom Wellnitz.
In his free time, Mike enjoyed keeping up with all his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, traveling to Idaho with Beth, and fishing in Oregon with her family.
A Memorial Service will be held on May 5, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Janesville, at 12:30 PM. A Celebration of Life reception will follow the service at the church at 1:00 PM.
