Michael Patrick Fitzpatrick, age 61, passed away suddenly at home in Sun Prairie, Wis., on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023. Mike was born in Madison on May 23,1961, to John “Fitz” and Mary Jane (Sweeney) Fitzpatrick. Mike enjoyed growing up in Shorewood Hills. He graduated from Madison West High School in 1979 and remained connected with his classmates, often assisting over the years with organizing gatherings of the “79ers”. He worked in Customer Service at Costco in Sun Prairie and was a “jack of all trades” being able to repair most anything.
Mike had a huge, kind heart and cared deeply for people. He would go out of his way to help anyone he met and was well known to lend an interested ear to others going through challenges. Mike’s smile immediately lit up any room he entered. So many people enjoyed his “fat and sassy” attitude and were inspired by his zest for life and joy for doing good. His adventurous spirit led him to take up skydiving, which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends. Mike had a passion for hunting and loved his annual pheasant hunting trip to Warren, Wis., with family and friends for over 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mona Nye (Ira); sister-in-law, Judy Fitzpatrick; and many other relatives. He is survived by his adopted daughter, Adrianne (Shane, Sr.) Sundby, and her children, Parker and Shane Jr.; his beloved brother, Patrick, and his three children, Colleen, Kelly and Kathleen; five sisters, Marie Bjork, Maureen (Ron) Andreozzi, and her son, Christopher, Monica (Eric) Arredondo, and her son, Andrew (Saralynn); Molly (Florin) Anicete, and her two children, Ashley and Christopher (Allison), and Margaret (Donald) Klinger, and her daughter, Adrienne (Scott Smail) Klinger. He is further survived by Mona’s daughter, Talia Bongiovani; four great-nieces; seven great-nephews; his uncles, Mike Fitzpatrick and Dave Morgan; and a large number of Fitzpatrick, Mann and Sweeney cousins.
Mike was a great brother, uncle, father, grandfather, cousin, colleague and friend. He believed in enjoying life to the fullest and did so with gusto. Your time with us was far too short Mike, and you will be deeply missed by all.
