MADISON - Michael Gerard Loomis, who most knew as Michael “Mike”, and others knew as Majik, was released from his earthly body May 8, 2024, after a long battle of serious medical conditions. Michael was in acceptance of what was happening and left us peacefully. His last thoughts were about how much he loved everyone, and he was being his silly self even in his last moments. As many can agree, Michael was one of the most loving and impactful beings to come into our lives. He was playful and kind. He listened without judgment and used his wonderful sense of humor to brighten people’s day, share their burden, and lift their spirits. Michael never stopped seeking, reading, or learning. Even as someone who always had very little, it never stopped him from giving so much, as shown in his monthly donations to the humanitarian organization, Save the Children.
During a brief inpatient rehab stay at The Villa in Middleton this past year, Michael began attending interfaith study classes which were hosted by members of The Baha’i Faith. Its participants came to know him as a man who shared a kindly heart and often expressed his gratitude to be able to connect with others who recognize the Light of the Divine shining through many lamps and called upon by many names throughout human history. He attended these gatherings regularly and continued to do so long after he left the facility and returned to the community. He always brought his gentle loving spirit which contributed to the unifying atmosphere of the classes in deepening the bonds of friendship in respectful recognition of each one’s own spiritual journey and search for truth. And even while struggling with the many health challenges that he faced every day, he would often say how important it was to him to feel a part of a spiritual family that provided him with peace of mind, listening ears, the capacity to endure and the prayerful certainty that we are not alone amidst the trials of life. Michael underwent a profound transformation through Christ in the closing days of his life. He felt his repentance was complete and testified to his personal salvation through Christ. He was ready to leave us, and his presence has already been greatly missed.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold Loomis and Louise Procino, and his brother, Johnny. He is survived by his beloved siblings, Mary, Jeanie, Arnie, Charlie, Henry, Louise, Justin, and Cerise; his darling niece, Suzie; his dearly loved daughter, Michelle Otero; his precious grandchildren, Alex, Christina, Angel, and Ariel; and countless friends who loved him deeply.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, beginning at 4 p.m., at BURROWS PARK, 25 Burrows Rd., Madison.
