He is also survived by nieces and nephews; and several brothers and sisters-in-law in Wisconsin, Texas, California and Colorado. Mert was a third generation Madison East-Sider. He served in the 651st Transportation Truck Co. of the U.S. Army in France during the Korean War. He followed his grandfather, father and brother into the construction trades. He worked many years for the Findorff Corp. and was a member of Ironworker’s Local #383. He was involved in many landmark projects throughout the country, including the walkway over Wisconsin Avenue in Milwaukee. He loved photography, taking pictures for business and pleasure. He volunteered his time and photographic expertise to a variety of organizations. He also earned his Real Estate Broker’s license. He raised collies for many years and worked to breed out eye defects in these beloved dogs. All who knew Mert knew a man with a quick wit, who loved his wife, family and dogs, as much as he was loved by them. Mert was a man who appreciated life’s mystery. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff members of the Veterans Hospital, Comfort Keepers, Home Instead, and Independent Living, for their kind care. You are welcome to visit the family on Sunday, July 6, 2008 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the MEADOW GROVE APARTMENTS COMMUNITY CENTER, 4815 Cottage Grove Rd., Madison.
