MADISON - Maureen Ann Charlton rode her bike to the gates of Heaven, where the good Lord took her into the palm of his hand, on Sunday, July 31, 2022. She battled glioblastoma for two and a half years. Maureen was born to Catherine Crowley Charlton and Henry L. Charlton, Jr., on April 7, 1966, in Madison, WI. She lived in Madison all her life. She attended Queen of Peace Grade School and Edgewood High School. Maureen worked at Sentry Foods on East Washington Ave., Cub Foods West, and worked as a CNA at several facilities in Madison. Maureen loved bicycling, basketball, softball and football. She played basketball for Edgewood High School. She played the position of catcher for Madison City Rec Softball. Most of her throws were to her sister Kate at second base, resulting in numerous outs for the opposition and a smoking glove for Kate. Maureen was a fan of the Wisconsin Badgers, Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers. Maureen is survived by sisters, Delia Jurkiewicz, Regina Charlton, Elizabeth (Pat) Fahey and Kate Charlton; brother-in-law, Bill Spencer; her Aunt Ruth Carroll, who shared love and comfort of prayer over the phone with Maureen during her illness; nieces and nephews, Billy and Jonathan Spencer, Devin and Morgan Charlton, Kristi and Jennifer Jurkiewicz, Scotty Johnsen, Kelsey (Taylor) Vogt, Katie, Danny (Sadie), Patrick and Timothy McHugh, Harry, Alex and Emma Charlton and Rachelle Elvord; grand nieces and nephews, Patrick, Molly, Morgan, William, Elena, Jake and Nathan Spencer, Eddie and Leo McHugh, Elliot Vogt, and Hayden Charlton; special friends, Susie Palm, Julie McHugh Tauber and Jeff McHugh. The family would like to thank Maureen’s best friend of 30 years, Debbie Hazelbaker for her love, care and devotion to “Mo”. She is also survived by her beautiful cat, Carl. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary T. Spencer; and brothers, Brendan R. Charlton and Patrick T. Charlton. The family would also like to thank Agrace Hospice for all their care and guidance. Also, thanks to Maureen’s wonderful caregiver Takema. Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 404 E. Main St., Madison, on Saturday, August 27, 2022, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. followed by the Mass at 11 a.m. Internment following Mass will take place at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 2705 Regent St., Madison.
