Mary K. Burke

MADISON - Mary Kathryn (Griffin) Burke, age 87, passed away on April 18, 2023, at Eden Vista Assisted Living Facility in Madison, WI. Mary was born on June 27, 1935, in Caledonia, MN to Emmet and Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) Griffin. She married William J. Burke on April 27, 1957, in New Albin, IA.

After high school, Mary trained and worked as a Surgical Tech at St. Mary’s in Rochester, MN. She also worked as a Nursing Assistant in the Newborn Nursery at St. Mary’s in Madison, WI for 25 years. Upon retirement, Mary discovered the joy of quilting. Over the years, many friends and family members were fortunate enough to receive her beautiful works of art. She was happiest when in the middle of a quilting project. Some of her other favorite pastimes included playing cards, watching Badger sports and the Packers, and reading.

Mary is survived by four children, Kathleen Burke, Colleen (Dave) Lytle, Jim (Kathy) Burke, Jerry (Beth) Burke, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers, many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Patrick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 413 Dempsey Rd. Madison, on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, beginning at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will follow at the church after the interment service at Highland Memory Gardens, Madison.
