DEFOREST - Mary E. Gage, born Feb. 13, 1943, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jan. 3, 2012, peacefully surrounded by her family. Mary grew up in Madison, and was the daughter of Sylvia Hunt (Wopat). She married the love of her life Melvin E. Gage Jr. on Feb. 14, 1976. Mary enjoyed playing cards, word searchs, watching the Minnesota Vikings, and most of all laughing. She was very gifted in sewing and enjoyed crocheting blankets for those she loved. Mary is survived by her five children, Ellen Hohenstein (Burgard), Shari (Norm) Johnson, Carla (Dennis) Nelson, Deon (Roxanne) Burgard, Kelly (Mark) Kittle, and stepdaughter, Mary Killerlain (Gage). She is further survived by 20 grandchildren, Monica, Carl, Ashley, Anthony, Randy, Raymond, Felicia, Mary, Christopher, Caitlyn, Carmelia, Jedd, Devin, Deona, Kirsten, Colten, Josh, DJ, Sheila and Eric. Mary was survived by siblings, Harold (Dorothy) Burgard, Danny Wopat, Maurita Reisinger, Hazel Dalberg, Marcella Coy, "Bro" Dennis; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her mother, Sylvia Hunt; her husband, Melvin Gage; her stepdaughter, Sharon Heft (Gage); and her "Bro," Bob "Stinker" Nimmer. Funeral services will be held at DEFOREST EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, 501 Country View Drive (Highway V) at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, with Pastor Jack Mielke officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Burial to follow service at Hillside Cemetery, Highway 51, Poynette. Her warm heart and caring personality made her an amazing mother and grandmother.
