Mary A. Hogenson, age 89, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2007 in Eau Claire. She was born August 8, 1918 in Green Bay, WI to Timothy and Mary (nee Quincannon) DeWane. While growing up in Green Bay, she met “her Ed”, Edward Hogenson. He was drafted into the army and she went to Stockton, CA where they were married in 1942. Following the war, they moved back “home” to Green Bay. With a job transfer for Ed, the family relocated to Chippewa Falls, then to Eau Claire, which became home for the family. In their retirement, Mary and Ed took many memorable trips both here and abroad. They were great travelers and enjoyed their trips to Germany, Ireland and Italy. They would often fondly recall their adventures in New York City where “the people were so friendly and helpful”. Mary was a long time member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Catholic Women’s Club and the “Brady Bunch”. In addition to raising her family, she was an avid bridge player, a wonderful cook and gardener and volunteered for many years at Sacred Heart Hospital’s gift shop and Mt. Washington Center of Care. Survivors include six children: Kathryn (Donald) Koss of Franklin, WI, Edward (Jean) Hogenson of Yucaipa, CA, Lynn (Dennis) Peil of Casa Grande, AZ, Ann (Steve) Kassing of Eau Claire, WI, Kurt (Angela) Hogenson of Olympia, WA and Elizabeth Hogenson of Eau Claire, WI. Her special love was with her 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and the joy they gave her. She is further survived by special DeWane cousins: Gordon, Abbott Tom, Gladys and Marilyn; a sister-in-law, Erma Hogenson, other family and friends. Preceding her in death was her husband of over 60 years, her parents, a grandchild, Tricia Kassing, a great-grandchild, Olivia Schwartz, a brother, Lawrence DeWane and a sister, Arleene Farrell. A special thanks to the caring staff at Our House Senior Living, CHP and Northwest Hospice.
