JANESVILLE - Margaret Polly Finch left this world peacefully on Good Friday evening, March 30th, 2018. She was in the company of 2 of her daughters; Katie Finch Cossman and Sondra Finch, and Katies husband, Rick Cossman. Polly was born on August 25th 1924 to Margaret and Phil Carroll. She was the oldest of four children: Polly, Jeane, Phil and Patricia. She was raised in New Jersey, and went on to the University of Michigan, where she studied engineering and later switched to mathematics, graduating with a BS degree in math. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. While there, she met Terry Finch, whose father was a math professor at the University. On June 25, 1946, she and Terry were married. A fun note: she rode her bicycle to the bridal shop to pick up her wedding gown and then on to the church. What a sight that must have been! Polly and Terry had four children of their own; Chris, Katie, Rich and Jim. They went on to adopt Terrys brothers daughters, Mirdza and Sondra Finch. As the Finch tribe moved from PA to MA back to PA and then to IL, Pollys moto was bloom where you are planted. She did just that. She was active in St. Margarets Episcopal Church at Emmaus, PA., St. Andrews Episcopal Church Downers Grove, IL, All Saints Episcopal Church Wolfeboro, NH, and Trinity Episcopal Church in Janesville, WI. She loved singing in the choir, doing altar guild work, Diocesan Council, ECW (president), the Lord and Tailor thrift shop and more. In Illinois, she was active in the community doing volunteer work for FISH, Family Service League, Republican Committeeman, and Red Cross blood donor. In New Hampshire she was involved with the Nighthawk Hollow Sr. Citizens and C.O.M.E.T. home extension group, a volunteer for Concord Hospital, volunteer usher at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord, a member of the NH Weavers Guild, Alton Garden Club and a member of Rev. Joseph Adams Chapter of Colonial Dames of XVII Century. She loved gardening, weaving, spinning, knitting, braiding rugs, craft work, travel, jazz, theatre and her family. Polly moved to WI in 2006, after losing her husband, Terry, the previous year. She became an active resident of the Cedar Crest Senior Community, participating in chime choir, the Warblers singing group, playing bridge, showing the Saturday matinees, and was involved in the resident council. She loved being near her daughter, Katie. Surviving Polly are her sister, Jeane Custin of Waynesboro, VA; Katie Finch Cossman and husband Rick Cossman of Janesville, WI; Sondra Finch of CO; Mirdza Finch of NM; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Polly was preceded in death first by son, Richard Finch of Lowell, MA; son, Christopher Finch of Lowell MA; husband, Terry Finch; son, James Finch of Toney, AL; brother, Phil Carroll of Lookout Mountain, TN; and sister, Patricia Buehler of Waynesboro, VA. A celebration of Pollys life will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 409 E. Court Street, Janesville, WI. on Saturday April 14, 2018. Visitation will be at the church at 3 p.m. followed by the service at 4 p.m. A memorial fund will be set up. Her ashes will be interred this summer at All Saints Episcopal Church in Wolfeboro, NH, in their memorial garden, with her beloved husband and their three sons. She will be greatly missed.
