MADISON - MCCOMB, MARCELYN CURTIS “MARCIE”, age 74 of Madison/Southern California, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning, January 27, 2008, at HospiceCare in Fitchburg. She was born on June 17, 1933, in Long Beach, CA, the daughter of Orlin R. Curtis and Ellanore M. Hager Curtis. Marcie graduated from Colton High School in Southern California in 1951 and was married the following year. Marcie, her husband and daughter moved to Bishop, California, east of the High Sierras in 1966 where they owned and ran the Bristlecone Café. In addition she typeset for a book publisher. Marcie worked for the Inyo County Clerk before she began a nearly thirty year career in the Bishop and Temecula offices of the California Highway Patrol. While performing her full time job Marcie also taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, sold low heat cookware and Amway products and worked as a sales agent for Century 21 in Bishop. She also catered weddings and big parties at a moment’s notice. She loved to cook, enjoyed gardening, and reading historical novels, but her greatest joy was finding herself surrounded by people, no matter what the occasion. She was an avid quilter and has left a legacy of priceless treasures in the many quilts she made for family and friends. After retirement in 1997, Marcie was active in Birth Choice in Temecula. She and her husband Jim worked as care givers for the elderly, and were both active members of Gateway Nazarene Church in Southern California where they still maintain many dear friendships. In June of 2005 Marcie and Jim moved to Madison to be near Cindy, John and her grandchildren. She also treasured the time she spent with her new family of friends at Blackhawk Church. Survivors include her husband Jim; daughter Cindy (John) Becker; grandchildren Mike, Libby, Jack and Timmy Becker; stepchildren Kathleen (Jeffrey) Engle of Walnut Creek, CA, Kevin McComb of Lafayette, CA, Dan & Gale (Elston) McComb, of San Francisco, Patrick (Mylie) McComb of Mill Valley, CA; grandchildren Luke, Katie, Nick and Leah Engle, Matia and Kevia McComb, and Makenna McComb; brothers Danny (Sherry) Curtis of Phoenix, Oregon and Barry (Sue) Curtis of Bishop, CA; Uncle Dick Hager of Apple Valley, CA; As well as numerous and beloved nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first grandson Hamilton Brooks Becker. A celebration of Marcie’s life will be held on Saturday, Feb.2, 2008, at 11:00 am at Blackhawk Church, 9620 Brader Way, Verona, WI. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Blackhawk Church. Marcie’s family would like to thank the caring at-home staff and facilities staff at HospiceCare Inc. as well as oncology clinic staff at UW Hospital.
