Louise J. Fries

February 22, 1932 — February 1, 2025

CROSS PLAINS – Louise Jane Fries, age 92 of Cross Plains, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Hebron Oaks on the Oakwood Village Campus in Madison. She was born on February 22, 1932, in Five Points, rural Richland County, Wis., the daughter of Chris and Lillian (Burr) Anderson. Louise embraced her age and did not shy away from it; she would proudly tell people how old she was. We loved that about mom.

Following her graduation from Rufus King High School in Milwaukee in 1950, she married Wayne E. Fries from Lone Rock on October 19, 1950, in Spring Green, Wis. Louise was a stay-at-home mom, raising her five children. After Wayne passed away, she cleaned homes for other people.

She enjoyed polka music and listening to the bands. She loved to go out dancing and that is where she met the love of her life, Wayne.

For everyone that met her, loved her. She had so much spunk and sassiness and could always make you laugh. Every person she met, Louise wanted to know where they were from. She was loved by so many and left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was deeply loved by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Louise is survived by three daughters, Rosemary Fries of Lone Rock, Karen Fries of Cross Plains, and Kathy Starrett of Mazomanie; brother-in-law, John Topper of Mount Horeb; stepbrother-in-law, Clinton Lombard; 11 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chris Anderson and Lillian McNurlen; husband, Wayne; son, Wayne, Jr.; daughter, Roxanne; sister, Linda; stepsister, Ellen Lombard; brother-in-law, Jerry McCarthy; and grandson, Christopher White.
