MADISON - Lorraine E. Pionkowski, age 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2018 after a long illness, with her family by her side. Lorri was born near Pewaukee, Wis., in Waukesha county on September 5, 1936, the daughter of Adolph and Alwina (Lange) Kisser. She married Jerry Pionkowski on December 21, 1957 in East Troy, Wisconsin. Lorri received a degree in teaching from Whitewater State University and Eau Claire State University. She was a gifted teacher and, besides her children, taught at various schools in Madison as a physical education teacher but mostly as an elementary teacher in Life Sciences. Lorri demanded excellence from her students and was loved by them for it. She was a lifelong learner who shared her knowledge with everyone and brought fun into the classroom. Lorri was a loving wife, a wonderful mother to her children, a joyful grandmother, a loyal sister and a kind and caring aunt. She always had a lot of energy and was ever active. Lorri liked to cook, sew, fish, camp, listen to country music, and walk her dog. She helped her children with so many things, including homework late into the night. Often, Lorri took her children's friends under her wing who needed a mother figure and they still think of her that way today. She lived in Madison for 50 years and helped many people in the community. Lorri loved animals, especially her dogs. Lorri is survived by her husband, Jerry; son, Gordon (Janet) Pionkowski; daughters, Raquel (Greg) Schears and Jodi (Raymond) Schappe; grandchildren Edward, Russell, Markayle (Jonathan), Kodiak, Kendall, Kaiden, Grant, Grace, Kevin and Perry; sisters, Rose Osenga, Anne Presser, Helene Sleight and Esther (Gary) Humphrey, and many dear nieces and nephews.
