COTTAGE GROVE - Mrs. Lorna R. Gust, age 94, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015. Lorna was born on March 9, 1920, in Belleville, to Eugene and Clara (Reuter) Staley. On June 3, 1943, she was united in marriage to Hilmer R. Gust, U.S. Army. Upon his discharge from the U.S. Army, they resided in Madison until 1950 when they moved to their new home in rural Cottage Grove. Both of them were interested in nature, hiking, fishing, bird watching and gardening. Lorna enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafts and cake decorating. She continued taking classes of all kinds through Madison Area Technical College. Traveling was another joy. Her trips took her to all 50 states and a trip to Europe. Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church was an important part of her life in which she served as a Deacon, Elder, taught Sunday School, was a charter member of Ruth Circle, member of Ladies Union and the Strategic Planning Committee. She and her husband were the leaders of the Hope 4-H Club and the P.T.A. She is survived by her children, Jay (Lyn) of Poynette, Janice (Michael) Snowden of Waukesha, and Jerry (Nancy) of Cottage Grove; and a daughter-in-law, Nicki Schultz of Chetek; grandchildren, Maya (Brent) Bender, Gary (Valerie) Gust, Jerry S. Gust, Jason (Amanda) Gust, Angela (Brant) Murray, Beau Snowden, and Craig (Anna) Snowden; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilmer; siblings, Clarence, Ethel Hollis and Claude; parents, Eugene and Clara Staley; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at BRYN MAWR PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 229 N. Main St., Cottage Grove, on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, beginning at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
