Lillian M. Currier

MADISON - Lillian "Lil" Currier was reunited with our savior Jesus Christ on Feb. 20, 2012. Always a cheerful, positive, upbeat person her warmth and outgoing personality will be missed by family, friends, and fellow residents at Oakwood Village where she and her loving husband Fred have lived for the past six years. Lil was born in Madison on Sept. 15, 1935, to John and Verda (Pierce) Michaelis. A graduate of East High, she married Fred R. Currier on June 29, 1956. Lil worked as an associate coordinator in public relations as well as a staff writer and editor for CUNA Mutual Insurance for more than 20 years. Hobbies and interests included gardening and flower arranging, serving as past chairman of horticulture for the Wisconsin Garden Club and past president of the Madison Garden Club. A skilled writer, she had several poems and articles published of the many she wrote, sharing her beliefs and observations about life and how to approach it. After both she and Fred retired, they moved to Florida and met and made many friends in and around Citrus County, enjoying the change in climate, wildlife, and scenery. However, they missed the closeness of family and returned to Madison after six years. Always an avid bird lover and admirer of nature, Lil had a special place in her heart for dogs. Family trips out west and later trips with friends and her husband all over the United States and into Canada brought much fascination and satisfaction to her inquisitive nature. Lillian was preceded in death by her sister, Delores Toycen; brother, John Michaelis; niece, Maria Michaelis; and daughter-in-law, Linda Currier. She is survived by her husband, Fred; and sons, John and Guy Currier; sister-in-law and her husband, Mary and Dr. Warren Young and their three sons Richard (Laura), James (Virgina) and John (Lynn); sister-in-law, Regina Michaelis and son Jeff (Kelly); daughters-in-law, Laura Shira Currier, Anne Fitchen Currier and granddaughters Lindsay, Jessica, Ellen and Elizabeth; longtime special friends, Donald and Ellinor Streicher; nieces and nephews; and many friends and neighbors Lillian and Fred made through the years. Lillian and family wish to thank the doctors at Mayo Clinic, Dr. Mulkerin and nurse Hollis at UW Hospital Oncology Clinic, her special nurse Sara from HospiceCare, and all the special angels at Agrace HospiceCare. Any memorials may be made to Heritage Congregational Church at 3102 Prairie Road and Agrace HospiceCare at 5395 Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI. Service will be held Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at RESURRECTION CHAPEL, OAKWOOD VILLAGE UNIVERSITY WOODS at 1 p.m.
