Leo Paul Savoie

Janesville - Leo Paul Savoie, age 95, passed away Monday, October 31, 2011 at his home. He was born in Lake Charles, LA; on September 13, 1916. Leo was a devout Christian all of his life and served in many capacities in his church. As a young man, he was an Eagle Scout. He met and married Vera Dell Paul in January of 1942. They went on to have 3 children, with nine years between each. Shirley, Fred, and Michael. He enlisted in the Army November 23, 1942. He was a sergeant in the 9th medical lab in India. and was honorably discharged December 10, 1945. Leo had many strong and vivid memories of his time in the Army and reminisced about that frequently as he aged. After the service Leo returned to the retail paint business, PPG Industries - Beaumont and Houston Texas, where he worked until he retired at age 65. Leo then moved with his wife to Lake Livingston Texas where they built their home on the lake and he became the Deacon for his church. They resided in their lake home until 2003. Leo's dream was to live on a sail boat but that never came about. Leo and Vera then moved to Janesville Wisconsin in August 2003 to live with their son Fred, his wife Jessica, and their 4 children. Leo was a very giving person and always thought of others before himself. Leo or Paul, as most people knew him, was always cheerful no matter how he felt. He was truly a gracious southern gentleman. He was a loving father, attentive grandfather, and enjoyed spending his last few years with his grandchildren. He always had a wink and a smile for them. One of his favorite past times was eating popsicles with his grandchildren, and they always saved the orange ones for him because orange was his favorite! He loved Sherbert ice cream, orange was his favorite and he enjoyed the occasional root beer soda. He was very much a family man and because of this, he was loved very much and will be missed greatly by all that knew him but we take solace in the knowledge that he is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Leo is preceded in death by his son Michael Todd Savoie, brother Fabian Savoie, Sisters Lucille Schrottke, and Thelma Holloway. Leo is survived by his wife of 70 years, Vera Dell Savoie, (or as he affectionately calls her, "babe"), son Fred Paul Savoie, daughter Shirley Jean Savoie, sister Irene Fuller and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Kristin Goelzer and all the Mercy hospice care staff, in particular, Annette. Thank you for all your support and help with Paul by allowing us to keep him as comfortable as possible so he would be surrounded by those who loved him and those he loved during his last few months.
