MADISON - Lawrence Cooks, Jr., age 57, of Madison, husband of Kristine (Swenson) Cooks, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, Conn. He was born on Sept. 18, 1948, in the Bronx, New York, son of Lawrence Cooks Sr. and the late Mildred (Howard) Grevious. Larry grew up in New York and lived in Chicago, and most recently Madison. A diamond setter by trade, he worked for Rogers & Holland in Chicago. He also worked for Madison Kipp Corporation in Madison for several years before becoming disabled. Larry was a kind man, who loved a good joke or prank. In his younger years, Larry took up boxing, a sport he enjoyed throughout his entire life. A loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend, he will be greatly missed by all. He leaves his wife, Kristine; two sons, Lawrence (Shaun) Cooks III, Charlotte, N.C., and Kristofor Cooks, Madison; two daughters, April (Richard) Case, Atlanta, Ga., and Autumn Cooks, Madison; two stepsons, Phillip (Annette) Crow, Montfort, and Paul Crow, Madison; his father, Lawrence Cooks Sr., Jamaica, N.Y.; a sister, Lauren (John) Johnson, Bloomfield; two brothers, Gene (Sebette) Cooks, Bakersfield, Calif., and Julian (Rosita) Cooks, Jamaica, N.Y.; grandchildren, Lawrence IV, Ava, Madisen, Maya, David and London; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held at the ALL FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 4058 Lien Road, Madison, on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at 3 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Kidney Foundation, 6110 Executive Blvd., No. 1010, Rockville, MD 20852 or a charity of the donor's choice.
