Larry Kampe

MIDDLETON - Lawrence “Larry” Kampe was called to his eternal home on Thursday, February 15, 2024. He was born on April 29, 1935, in Tinley Park, Illinois, the son of Theodore and Augusta Kampe. He married Barbara Kampe on August 23, 1958. Barb preceded him in death on February 1, 2024.

Larry grew up in a German farming community. He was a Cook County spelling bee finalist and frequently shared his lifelong love of words with his grandchildren. Larry attended St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas where he met Barb. After receiving his associate degree, Larry joined the Army and was stationed in Japan at the end of the Korean War. With three children in tow, he returned to school earning his accounting degree at UW Madison and enjoyed doing taxes for many family and friends. Larry was generous with his time, talents, and lived for the Lord.

Larry is survived by his sister, Myra (Paul) Gregor; his children, Laurie Van Haren of Middleton, Mark (Paula) Kampe of Middleton, and John (Amy) Kampe of Neenah; grandchildren, Nicole (Luke) Volp, Ashley (Tom) Fritz, Danielle (Marty) Wernimont, Joshua (Kate) Kampe, Cody (Abbey) Van Haren, Caitlyn Kampe, and Benjamin Kampe; great-grandchildren, Roman and Wesley Fritz, Lincoln, Sawyer, and Mason Volp, Grayson Kampe and another Van Haren great-grandchild is on the way. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. In addition to Barb, he was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Arnold and Hilbert Kampe, and his sister Irene Klain.

A joint funeral service for Larry and Barb will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, at LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE LIVING CHRIST, 110 N. Gammon Rd., Madison. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Larry and Barb to Lutheran Church of the Living Christ, Agrace or a charity of your choice.
