Kevin D. Grauvogl

August 24, 1960 — June 19, 2006

MADISON – Kevin “Rhino” Darel Grauvogl, age 45 of McFarland, died Monday, June 19, 2006 at Meriter Hospital. He was born August 24, 1960 in Sauk City, the son of Darel “Whitey” and Barbara (Hall) Grauvogl. Kevin had a great zest for life, always finding something to enjoy no matter where he found himself. Kevin graduated from McFarland High School in 1978 where he participated in football, drama club and chorus. He excelled in baseball in high school, Teener League, American Legion baseball and the U.S. Army, where he traveled all over Germany doing what he loved. He was selected for many All Star teams. He then played recreational softball until he was forced to give it up due to a baseball injury during his time in Germany. He coached recreational baseball for youth in McFarland when his boys were young. He always enjoyed bowling and he loved being on the golf course, especially enjoying his last few years with his Dad and brother Todd. He married Jodie Armstrong in 1980 in Manhattan, Kansas, while they were both serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Riley. Together they had two sons, Kraig and Kurt, who were two of the best things that ever happened to him. He enjoyed kids, always entertaining them and getting them to laugh. He was extremely excited to become “Grandpa Grauvogl” to Kurt’s son, Jacob. Kevin had many friends and treasured them all. He was working as the kitchen manager at Argus Restaurant at Pooleys. He enjoyed having the opportunity to learn so much of the art of cooking and the restaurant business from his friend and employer, Todd Dukes, and his friends John and Denise Pearson at the Public House in Flint Hills, Virginia, where he spent two years cooking and learning from them. Kevin is survived by his Mom and step-dad, Barb and Marlen Moody; step-mother, Patsy Grauvogl; brother, Todd (Kris) Grauvogl; sons, Kraig and Kurt; grandson, Jacob; grandmother, Sena Grauvogl; step-brother, Marv (Lisa) Moody; step-sister, Marlene (Jim Lembke) Duane, and their families and many very special aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and his very special friend, Laura Grabfelder, who added so much joy to the last months of his life. He was preceded in death by his dad, Darel “Whitey” Grauvogl; brother, Kraig David; paternal grandfather, Don Grauvogl; maternal grandparents, Ken and Virgina Hall. A memorial service will be held at the ALL FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 4058 Lien Road, on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at noon, with Pastor Larry Moody officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
