Kathryn R. Thompson

MADISON - Kathryn “Kay” R. Thompson (nee Anderson), age 87 of Madison, passed away at home peacefully on November 1, 2022.

Kathryn was born in Crystal Falls, Michigan to Ed and Estelle Anderson on June 16, 1935. She graduated from Forest Park High School in Crystal Falls, and then earned a BSN from the University of Michigan in 1957. After graduation, she attended the University of Michigan School of Public Health for additional training in public health nursing. Following that, she moved to Madison to work as a public health nurse for the City of Madison from 1958 until 1967. When she left the City, she was serving as the supervisor of public health services for the east district of Madison.

While in Madison, she met the love of her life, Charles S. Thompson, and they were married on November 28, 1964. Kay left her job to raise the couple’s children, Emily and Scott. After staying home to raise a family, she returned to the workplace in 1988 with Davis and Duehr Eye Clinic, where she worked until she and Charles retired in 1995. After retirement, Kay and Charles traveled considerably, with visits to places including Switzerland, Spain, Norway, Hawaii, Alaska, and many other stops in between. She enjoyed sewing, baking, reading, listening to music, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandkids.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles; children, Emily (Mike) Bouska and Scott (Linda) Thompson; and grandchildren, Nick, Alex, Katie, and Ryan. She was preceded in death by her parents and dearly beloved sister, Marjorie.

There will be a private burial with family at a later date. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Dane County Humane Society or the charity of one's choice.
