Kathleen Ann Marshall

MADISON - Kathleen Ann Marshall, age 73, died peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Oct. 22, 1942, in Jefferson, Wis., as the first of 10 children to Anthony and Betty Hetzel. After attending Jefferson High School, she went on to get a degree in Education from UW-Whitewater. One week after graduation, she married her husband, John, and had 52 years of a wonderful life with him. John had a one year internship to fulfill in Hartford, Conn., where Kathy would teach for that year. After Hartford, they moved to Madison, Wis., for three years so John could complete his three years of medical residency. Kathy spent those three years teaching in Madison. After Madison it was a move to San Antonio, Texas, where John was stationed for two years at Randolph Air Force Base and Kathy went back to school at St. Mary's University to obtain a degree in Interior Design. After moving back to Madison, they had two children, Brent and Erin. Kathy started her design business and operated it for 37 years. Some of her lifelong friends were made through that business connection. She volunteered at DAIS (Domestic Abuse Intervention Services), where she was a board member for seven years. Kathy enjoyed to garden and travel, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Betty Hetzel; and two brothers, Anthony and James. She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. John Marshall; children, Brent Marshall of Minneapolis and Erin (John) DuCharme of Waunakee; two grandchildren, Shea and Weston DuCharme; brothers and sisters, Joseph (Terri) Hetzel of Minneapolis, Robert (Jan) Hetzel of Boston, Mass., Thomas (Kris) Hetzel of Ontario, Wis., Mary (Jody) Roberts of Janesville, Betsy (Paul) Poehlmann of Milwaukee, Tim (Sue) Hetzel of Appleton and Susan (Neal) Smith of Atlanta, Ga. A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held at the AGRACE HOSPICECARE CENTER. 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, on Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to DAIS, 2102 Fordem Ave., Madison, WI 53704.
