MADISON - Joseph G. Hyatt Sr. age 69, of Madison, died on Friday, Dec. 4, 2015 after a short battle with cancer. He was born to Gilbert and Louisa (Gander) Hyatt on March 10, 1946. He grew up in Dane, Wis., and attended Waunakee High School. He married the love of his life, Susan Schmit, on Jan. 19, 1991. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was kind-hearted, generous and willing to help anyone if he could. He enjoyed camping, fishing, time with his family and friends and spending time at his cabin. Survivors include his wife, Susan; sons, Joseph Jr. (Nicole) Hyatt, Timothy (Joann) Hyatt, Jay Hyatt (Hannah Berg) and Russell Freeman (Julie Benjamin); grandkids, Tyler, Hailey, Kera, Dominick, Hannah, T.J. and Sedona; brothers, Francis (Mary Lou) Hyatt, Tony (Sally) Hyatt; in-laws, Donald and Elizabeth Schmit; sisters-in-law, Kathy Hyatt, Joan Hyatt, Nancy Meinholz, Mary Servia, Jeanne Harshman, Theresa Schmit (Curt Gerhard), Ann Buettell (Scott Berry); brothers-in-law, Randy Schmit, Ron Schmit (Terri Evans), Larry Schmit, Joseph Schmit, Jeff (Mary) Schmit, Stephen (Tammy) Schmit, Donald (Shannon Rezac) Schmit, and Brian (Josi) Schmit; many nieces, nephews and close friends. He is further survived by cabin companions: Richard Hyatt and his honorary brother, Dennis Gobeli. He was proceeded in death by his parents; sisters, Linda and Mary; brothers, David, John, Mark and Thomas (both as infants); sisters-in-law, Ruth Hyatt and Kathy Schmit; and brothers-in-law, Luke Buettell and Walter Meinholz. A special thanks to the UW Hospital and Agrace HospiceCare for Josephs excellent care. Arrangements are being handled by All Faiths Funeral & Cremation Services. A potluck Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015 from 12 noon to 5 p.m. at AMERICAN LEGION POST 360, 471 E. Main St, Waunakee, WI 53597. Full Military Rites will be at noon.
