January 23, 1944 - August 29, 2010 John Elwyn “JJ” Wegert, 66, Janesville, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, at Mercy Hospital emergency department. He was born in Baraboo, WI, on Jan. 23, 1944, son of William and Iola Johanna (Baumel) Wegert. He was a 1963 graduate of Wisconsin Dells High School. John married Charlene Mary Cooper on Sept. 5, 1975, in Janesville. He worked at General Motors for 34 years, retiring on Oct. 1, 1999. John was a member of the UAW Retirees Local 95 and was a Janesville Gazette carrier and a rural route carrier for Watertown Daily Times. John was active with the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts in Janesville. Survivors include his wife, Charlene; three children: Jeffrey (Tamara) Wegert, Mary Ann Wegert, James Wegert, all of Janesville; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; his brother, Edward (Barbara) Wegert, of Wisconsin Dells; his sister, Elaine Wernigg, of Madison; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two nephews, Dennis Wernigg and Richard Sidek. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at ALL FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1618 E. Racine St., with Rev. Wendy Slaback officiating.
