Jeffrey Alter

MADISON - Jeffrey L. Alter, 65, of Madison, WI, left our world on April 29, 2024. Jeff was born on August 27, 1958, the son of George Alter and Jan Lium. Jeff is survived by his daughter, Jessica Alter (Brian Wendt); brother, Greg Alter (Pamela and Joshua); step siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jeff was a lifelong resident of Madison. He grew up in the Burke Heights Neighborhood and has fond memories with his brother, cousins, and friends. He attended Madison East High School. Jeff was married to Kelly Alter for 19 years; they raised their daughter together. Jeff worked at many local businesses as a maintenance man, he loved shining things up. Jeff retired from the City of Madison Streets Department, he was happy to go to work every day and was proud to be a member of the Local 236.

Jeff’s greatest joy in life was being a father. He was an avid bass fisherman and camper. He was deeply moved while participating in the Act 10 protests at the capitol. Jeff spent his free time enjoying the company of others, listening to Johnny Cash, and giving people a smile. He enjoyed the music and homilies at Messiah Lutheran Church and was a dedicated Woodman’s patron.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Road, Madison, with Pastor Jeff Vanden Heuvel officiating. Burial will follow in the Blooming Grove Cemetery. Visitation at will be at MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
