Jearold L. “Jerry” Christner, age 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family and friends. He was born March 31, 1934 in Eau Claire, WI to Fred and Ida (nee Leslie) Christner. For a few years, he farmed in the Strum area before going to work at Packerland of Chippewa Falls. He later retired from Phoenix Steel after many years of service. Known to his friends as “Slim”, Jerry had a passion for working on cars and lawnmowers. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. To some of the locals, he was also known as the “Mayor of Elk Lake”. Jearold is survived by his fiancee', Patricia J. Barta, Elk Lake, WI;four children: Steve (Donna) Barta of Eau Claire, WI, Jonathan (Corey) Duggan of Rio Rancho, NM,Jerry (Nikki) Wendt of Elk Mound, WI and Donna Cardinal of Elk Mound, WI; six grandchildren: Jeremiah (Amber) Barta of Elk Mound, WI, Anthony Barta of Eau Claire, WI, Samantha Wendt of Eau Claire, WI, Drew, Joe and Jordon Schrantz of Elk Mound, WI, Bobby Pagel, Brady Wendt and Abbigail Farley all of Elk Mound, WI; four sisters: Dorothy Christner of Eau Claire, WI, Zelda Larson of Buffalo City, WI, Jeanette (Dennis) Abbeldinger of Eau Claire, WI, and Velma (Dale) Atchison of Cadott, WI; and three brothers: Don (Betty) Christner of Elk Mound, WI, Alvin (Connie) Christner of Elk Mound, WI and Freddy (Nancy) Christner of Duluth, MN. Further survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Alfred, Glen and Richard. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 6, 2007 at All Faiths Funeral & Cremation Service, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54703. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, October 5th and again on Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in Fall City Cemetery.
